Bumi Sehat Youth Centers

Come volunteer with us!

Bumi Sehat's Youth Center offers free conversational English classes to local school children aged 10 + through an after-school program.  As a volunteer English teacher, you will be teaching students who are eager to learn and succeed. With the help of our Balinese teacher aides, you will have the opportunity to assist these students in gaining valuable skills that will boost their confidence and enhance their ability to find good jobs after they graduate from school.

Our volunteer schedule

Volunteers teach classes at the Youth Center Monday through Thursday from 3-6 pm. Students will also be expected to devote a minimum of 1 hour per day to class preparation, including going over the curriculum and preparing class materials.

There are no classes Friday – Sunday so your weekends are free.  Volunteers often use this time to explore this wonderful island.  We have a beautiful sunny shared house with private rooms and a fully-functioning kitchen.  Fruit and bread are provided each morning.

Our volunteer requirements:

  • Must be 18+ years to apply
  • 4 week minimum commitment, longer stays are encouraged
  • No teaching experience necessary

Our fee is $550. (US/AUD) per 4-week period.  This helps us cover program and housing costs.

We’re currently expanding our reach of education with the opening of a new Youth Center in Aceh, Indonesia. The Youth Center will be located at the site of our second community health and birthing clinic that built after the tsunami devastated the area in 2004.

Teenagers and young adults, who were still children when the tsunami tore apart their families, will soon be the region’s leaders. We are committed to helping them rebuild their lives, overcoming disaster and manifesting productive happy futures.

At a recent community meeting, Acehnese youth asked for help with vocational skills such as motorbike maintenance and sewing, as well as English, computer and organic gardening skills. ?2013 will be an exciting year for our community in Aceh, as for them the Bumi Sehat Youth Center – Aceh is a dream come true.
